Volunteers are the heart and energy of church life. We invite you to become part of our sacred Time & Talent team when you volunteer with Unity of Central Florida. Volunteers are needed and appreciated in every area. Most positions require no previous experience or training, just a willingness of heart. Choose an area of interest to learn more about the requirements and time commitment.
Volunteer Opportunity Descriptions
Administrative
Put your love of organization and good communication to use when you join the Administrative Team!
Requirements: Proficiency with office-type skills, basic computer skills, organized.
Time commitment: One to two hours a month or as needed.
Children & Teens
Must love kids! Join us in shaping the spiritual foundation of our little ones and youth.
Requirements: Experience working with children, loving and responsible, and knowledge of first aid. Background check will be performed.
Time Commitment: Alternating Sunday mornings from 10 am to noon.
Facilities
Join the facilities team in helping maintain the interior beauty of our campus buildings.
Requirements: Perform a variety of duties including vacuuming, dusting, cleaning bathrooms, floor mopping, and cleaning glass doors and windows.
Time Commitment: Two to four hours a month and as needed.
Grounds
Do you enjoy working outdoors? Mother Nature is calling you!
Requirements: Help maintain flower/planting beds surrounding buildings, and potted plants. Perform plant trimming, watering, and fertilizing.
Time Commitment: A few hours monthly or every other month and as needed for special yard projects.
Maintenance
Are you a Jack or Jane of all trades? Exercise your handyperson skills and help maintain the smooth running of the mechanical and electrical aspects of the church.
Requirements: Assist with projects that include plumbing, AC filter replacement, general repair of the facility, change lightbulbs, patch and paint, pressure wash sidewalks, light tree trimming, deep clean floors and carpeted areas.
Time Commitment: As needed depending on project.
Hospitality
There’s no such thing as too many cooks in our kitchen! Put on your apron and join the fun!
Requirements: Prepare, set up, and serve food and beverages. Clean up and empty trash in Hightower Hall and kitchen.
Time Commitment: Two hours on alternating Sundays after service and as needed on special occasions.
Music/Performance Arts
Are you enthusiastic about singing? We would love for you to be part of our music team!
Requirements: Attending rehearsals is essential if you want to sing on Sundays. We kindly request that you audition with Will Rodriguez so he can assess your vocal range.
Time Commitment: Rehearsals take place every Thursday at 7 pm and on Sundays, we meet at 8:45 am to review the music we’ve practiced with the band.
Prayer Chaplains
Join the team that helps meet the pastoral care needs within our church community and carries out the central mission of Unity: Prayer.
Requirements: Pray with and for church members and guests who request prayer in person or by phone. Must be a church member and complete prayer chaplain training in Unity’s active prayer process and confidentiality.
Time Commitment: This role requires a one-year commitment, which includes monthly meetings, making prayer calls once a month, and praying with congregants after services.
Tech Arts (Audio/Visual/Stage Production)
Be part of the team that combines art and technology to deliver the Unity message each week. Tech Arts includes the operation of sound equipment, slides and projection, and video and live-streaming.
Requirements: Should be comfortable working with computers and other sound and lights technology in a performance environment. Training specific to Unity CFL will be provided.
Time Commitment: Sunday shifts are approximately 4 hours. Some roles start at 8:30 am (sometimes earlier). Other roles start at 9:30 am.
Ushers
The ushers serve as part of the greeting group with the Welcome team.
Requirements: Assist greeters with collecting the offering gifts during service, replenish pews with supplies following service.
Time Commitment: Before and after Sunday service for 15 to 30 minutes each.
Welcome
Serving on the Welcome Team is a great way to get to know more church members and be a friendly face to newcomers.
Requirements: Responsible for welcoming church members and guests to Sunday Service.
- Identify first-time guests and welcome them.
- Give welcome packets to first-time guests and assist with name tags.
- Serve as ushers for collecting the offering gifts.
- Follow up with new guests after service and during hospitality.
- Assemble the welcome packets.
- Give out birthday and anniversary cards once a month.
Time Commitment: Arrive 45 minutes before service starts (9:45 am). Serve two times per month or more.
